Your Ideal Three Day Itinerary for Nieu Bethesda and Doornberg Guest Farm
This itinerary is a self-guided, self-catering option for your next trip to Nieu Bethesda. The activities and suggestions listed below serve as a guide for newcomers who may not be familiar with what our town has to offer. Please note that most options require advance booking through the provided links.
Doornberg Guest Farm is located just 9 km from Nieu Bethesda, offering the best of both worlds—close proximity to the town, while providing a peaceful farm setting for relaxation.
Available facilities on Doornberg:
The Guest House can sleep up to 9 people. At the back of the guest house, The Rondavel, can accommodate an additional 3 guests.
The Flat is a converted stable and can sleep up to 4 people in an open plan arrangement.

DAY 1
Arrive on Doornberg Guest Farm.
- 16:00 – Unpack and explore Doornberg: The farm is a working farm so depending on your arrival you will be able to see typical farm activities.
- 18:00 – Drive to Kriebosskerm for sundowners: We will provide a detailed map of how to get to this kriebos lapa in the middle of the Springbok camp veld, around 5km from the house. We recommend doing this with a bakkie or 4×4 as the roads are rough. Guided trips can also be requested at an additional fee.
- 19:00 – Braai and kuier: This is self catering, but we can provide a quote for a catered braai option too
DAY 2 – VILLAGE DAY
- 9:00 – Breakfast at The Village Inn: Book with Elbe at 072 3860 594
- 10:00 – Visit Helen Martins’ Owl House and visit the crafters to buy a souvenir owl: The Owl House also have a marvellous gift shop if you can’t find the owl you want from the informal crafters just outside the Camel Yard.
- 11:30 – Stroll to Die Winkel and buy an ice cream from Saju: Die Winkel supplies most of the town with grocery items and need-to-haves and Saju is a treasure.
- 12:00 – Visit Dustcovers Bookshop: They have an incredible selection of new and used books, especially those from local writers.
- 13:00 – Head over the suspension bridges to Sneeuberg Brewery and Two Goats Deli for beer and lunch platters: If you are not into beer, ask them about their cider or ginger beer too.
- 14:30 – Visit the Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre and see fossils in the nearby riverbed: Bookings are needed – book here or at the centre itself
- 15:30 – End the day with a meditative walk at Gregg Price’s labyrinth: The labyrinth is used for walking meditation. It is a single winding path from the outer edge to the center.
- 16:00 – Head back to the farm for a nap/reading
- 19:00 – Pizza at either Zalig or Bruno’s at The Bethesda: Both places offer incredible pizzas and other menu items.
- 22:00 – Stop on Langhoogte on the way back to the farm, turn off the car lights and experience the stars in its brightest form
DAY 3 – ART DAY
10:00 – Sleep in and brunch on the farm
11:00 – Easy hike to the Stonefolk of Ongeluksloot: Just 3km from Doornberg, so there and back is quick hike
12:30 – Head to Nieu Bethesda
13:00 – Donkey cart ride with Jakob around Nieu Bethesda: Book with Jakob on 072 987 9831
14:00 – Stop in at the Bethesda Arts Centre and Bushman Heritage Museum: You can opt for a guided tour too.
15:00 – Drop in at the Infinity Gallery to see the latest exhibition of local artists: Heidi Boekooi will give you all the insights into the local artists
15:30 – Go for a drink at Boetie’s Pub and ask for a curry mince jaffle from The Village Inn to tie you over till dinner
17:00 – Head to Marrette se Bank viewpoint for sundowners: It is just a few km out of town, ask one of the locals to point out the best road to take. Remember a drink!
18:00 – Early dinner at Die Waenhuis: Recommendation is to eat the Karoo lamb, but you can’t go wrong with any of Aubrie’s dishes
20:00 – Head back to the farm, light the fire and reminisce about the past few days over coffee or something stronger
DAY 4 – EXTRAS
10:00 – Check out

11:30 – On your way home, drop in at Tot Hier Toe Padstal to fill up with local meat and produce.
